How We Designed Kala Cotton Pants for Hot Weather

Middle East summer is not a joke, so we started thinking early about what product we want to launch for the hot months.
We wanted a piece that could be worn in and out of the house. Something easy for working from a café, walking on the beach, school drop-offs, or a long weekend staycation.
If you know TB Project, you know we source our fabrics from India. When we discovered kala cotton, it just clicked.
What is kala cotton?

Kala cotton is an organic, rain-fed cotton grown in India. It is indigenous to dry regions and known for being breathable, durable, and well-suited for hot climates.
Kala cotton is naturally breathable and lightweight, allowing air to circulate and helping the body stay cool. Its texture feels soft on the skin, making it especially comfortable in heat and humidity. Read more about kala cotton here.

What makes good pants for hot weather?
We chose a long, loose-fitted silhouette — something that protects from the sun while wide-leg cut allows airflow.
To make sure they work in real life, we started by ordering a few meters of fabric from our favourite supplier in India and creating our first samples to test everything:
- Does it actually feel cool in the heat?
- Is the fit flattering? Is the length right?
-
Will the fabric crease easily after sitting in the car for a long drive?
- Are the pockets big enough for your phone?
- Is the waistband soft enough to wear all day?
- Can you move freely — even run after a dog in the park?
To be honest, we didn’t get everything right the first time. We kept tweaking: adjusting the fit, refining the details, and asking for feedback — until we got to a version that felt right.
The result is lightweight, breathable kala cotton pants designed for hot weather. Easy to wear, comfortable all day, and made to move with you — wherever your day takes you.
And we’re so glad you loved it:
