How We Designed Our Cotton Pyjamas: From Fabric to Fit

TB Project started in Singapore and now also expanded in the Middle East, so designing for heat has always been part of how we think.

We set out to make pyjamas we would actually want to wear: light, breathable, and easy enough for both sleeping at night and lounging during the day. This is how our cotton pyjama sets came together, from fabric to final piece

STEP 1: STARTING WITH THE RIGHT FABRIC

At TB Project we always start with fabric. Since we source from India, we already knew the kind of light cotton fabric we were looking for: lightweight, and comfortable in hot weather. We asked different suppliers for samples and compared them in real life to choose the one that felt right

STEP 2: GATHERING INPUT

We asked pretty much everyone we could about pyjamas: do they even wear them, do they prefer pants or shorts, loose or more fitted, what colours they like, and what they find the most annoying. At some point we were choosing between plain and patterned fabric. The answers were almost 50/50, so we decided to make both

STEP 3: COLLECTING REFERENCES

Once we had a direction, we went through a lot of references and worked with a pattern maker to figure out the shape. We wanted something relaxed, but still looked put together. More about why we chose an oversized fit for our pyjamas here

STEP 4: MAKING A PROTOTYPE, TESTING AND TRYING

We made the first prototype and asked people to try it and tell us honestly what they think.

One set went straight on a trip to Montenegro to get a proper test by Europe summer with no air conditioning.

Fit check: passed.

After that, we adjusted a few things like proportions, elastic band, and other small details that make a difference in everyday wear

STEP 5: WORKING WITH THE WORKSHOP IN INDIA

Once everything was finalised, we worked with our workshop in India to finalise the production details — from stitching to finishing.

We’re not a mass-market label, so every step takes time. We go back and adjust things when needed, just to make sure the final piece feels right for the intended purpose. Breathable, easy to wear, and suited for warm days and nights.

"I recently bought a really cute pajama set from TB Project and I'm honestly so happy with it. The fabric is soft and made from real cotton, so it feels super comfortable and cozy. I also love the pattern — it looks even nicer in real life."

"I bought a flower pyjama at a Christmas pop-up and really got to appreciate it — especially when sleeping without aircon. Not having that mass-market plastic feel is so nice, and the design is really cute. I love how the oversized top fits."
